Another forest fire news as wildfires starts ravaging forest and villages in Algeria.
The Mediterranean had become a wildfire hotspot, according to a European Union atmosphere monitor, as large blazes devoured woods in Turkey and Greece, boosted by a heatwave.
Forests and communities east of Algiers, in the Kabyle region, have been ravaged by flames, which have blanketed the mountainous territory in heavy clouds of smoke.
On Twitter, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced that soldiers had rescued more than 100 people from fires in two hilly regions.
The Kabyle region, 60 miles (100 kilometers) east of Algiers, Algeria’s capital, is peppered with difficult-to-reach settlements.
According to the president, the deaths and injuries occurred near Kabyle’s capital of Tizi-Ouzou, which is surrounded by mountains, and in Bejaia, which borders the Mediterranean Sea.
Kamel Beldjoud, the interior minister, had already visited Kabyle to inspect the situation and blamed the fires there on arson.
According to official television estimates, at least 65 people have died in flames that erupted in Algeria.
The blazes looked to be “very synchronised,” Prime Minister Ayman Benabderrahmane said on state television, which “leads one to conclude these were criminal acts.”
Officials stated 25 soldiers were slain while attempting to save people.
“Only criminal hands can be responsible for the simultaneous start of around 50 fires across numerous localities,” he stated, despite the fact that no arrests have been made.
He stated that the top objective was to prevent further victims, and he promised to recompense individuals who were harmed.
